Italian language test for citizenship: B1 certificates and how to pass

To become an Italian citizen by marriage or by residence you need Italian at B1 or higher, proved with a CILS, CELI, PLIDA, Cert.IT or Ce.Co.L. certificate or an Italian school diploma, though some applicants are exempt. The catch is timing: you must already hold the certificate when you file the application, and exam results usually take two to four months. This guide covers which certificates count and who is exempt, how CILS B1 Cittadinanza, the exam built for citizenship, works part by part, vocabulary for six topics, the grammar you need, an 8-week plan and how to attach the certificate to your application.
