You set the level yourself, by answering on the card. The app does not guess it: your answer decides both the level and how soon the word comes back.
The levels
- “New” - the word was just added, or you did not recall it. Shows up most often.
- “Learning” - the translation comes back, but with effort and not every time.
- “Almost” - it comes back straight away, though sometimes you still need a second.
- “I know” - it comes back without thinking. Shows up the least, as a check.
The level is your own read on your memory, not a counter of views. The higher it is, the more rarely the word returns for review.
What moves a word up
You set the level yourself, with your answer on the card. Flip it: under the card there are four buttons, each in the colour of its level:
- “Forgot” - the word goes back to “new”.
- “Hard” - to “learning”.
- “Good” - to “almost”.
- “Easy” - to “I know”.
A button sets the level outright, it does not move it one step. “Easy” puts the word straight into “I know”, “Forgot” returns it to “new” from any level.
The two large buttons below are the quick answer. “Don't know” returns the word to “new”. “Know it” only lifts it from “new” to “learning”; higher up it moves nothing, that is what the four buttons are for.
You can also set the level by hand: in the deck, tap the coloured dot to the left of the word and pick one.
Nothing else affects the level. Not “Word matching”, not the sentence builder, not the exercises after stories and dialogues: those are practice, not a verdict.
What moves it down
The same buttons take it down. “Forgot” and the large “Don't know” return the word to “new” from any level, “Hard” sets “learning”. Missed days on their own change nothing: until you answer on a card, the level stays as it was.
Where the level is visible
In the word list and in the deck every word is marked with the colour of its level, and the deck header shows the spread: how many words sit on each level. That bar tells you what is happening to the deck - whether the upper levels are growing or everything is stuck on the first two.
